Training

Your journey to becoming a police officer with SA Police begins with our Constable Development Program.

For the first part of your training you’ll be based at our police academy in Taperoo, Adelaide. Here, you’ll combine academic studies in law, policy and procedure with practical and physical training. Once you have completed the Academy based training (usually taking between nine and eleven months, depending on your pathway), you will become a Probationary Constable and posted to one of the four metropolitan Districts or rother locations across the State.

During this probationary period, you’ll build up your skills and experience in the field, after which we’ll consider you for the rank of constable.
