Community Constable Careers

Community police (community constables) work alongside police officers in frontline policing operations, helping to build a link between the local community and police.

The role supports the delivery of a range of policing services and engagement activities, while providing a trusted point of contact for First Nations and culturally diverse communities. Community constables assist police officers by performing front line policing duties with limited police authorities with differing accountabilities.

Community constables are role models: they promote culturally informed policing and strengthen trust and engagement between police and communities. As such, they help build mutual understanding and support culturally safe approaches to community safety.

Applicants are required to complete and submit an online eligibility assessment form to understand the standards, responsibilities and values required as a community constable.

SA Police are actively recruiting First Nations Australians for community constable positions in metropolitan Adelaide, Port Augusta, Whyalla and Coober Pedy.
