Arrest after Coober Pedy break-in

Police are investigating a break-in at a service station in Coober Pedy.

Atbout 3.20am on Tuesday 2 April, the service station on Hutchison Street was broken into after a white Ford Ranger reversed through the southern entrance causing significant damage to the doors and windows.

A man has then gained access to the station where he has stolen cash and then fled the scene.

The vehicle was later found burnt out about 10.30am on the same day on Anne Beadell Highway, approximately 10km north of Coober Pedy.

Subsequent enquiries found that the vehicle used in the break-in was stolen on Saturday 30 March 2024 in Coober Pedy and believed to have remained in the township over the Easter weekend.

On Wednesday 3 April, Port Augusta CIB officers arrested a 63-year-old Coober Pedy man in relation to this matter. He was charged with serious criminal trespass, theft, illegal use of a motor vehicle, arson and drive disqualified. He was refused bail.

Police believe that the man had an accomplice during the course of the offending.
