Tech gadget downfall of thieves

Two juveniles have been arrested after being tracked by an Apple AirTag on a stolen scooter.

About 5.50pm Tuesday 7 May police were notified that a Kymco scooter had been stolen from Frome Road, Adelaide, and the owner was tracking it with an AirTag.

Patrols headed to the scooters last known location, Main North Road at Parafield, and started searching the area. The victim was able to provide updates to patrols and informed police the AirTag had pinged in the back streets of Pooraka.

PolAir attended the area and spotted the scooter with rider and pillion at an address on Sandow Avenue. The pair then took off on the scooter to a scrub area behind Duffield Drive. PolAir relayed the pair’s location to police and called in PD Enzo to assist. PD Enzo chased down a 15-year-old Mansfield Park boy, while patrols nabbed a 15-year-old Munno Para girl.

They were both charged with illegal use and bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Youth Court on 21 June and 7 June.

Police returned to the Sandow Avenue address where they uncovered two more alleged stolen motorbikes. A 37-year-old Pooraka man was arrested and charged with two counts of theft. He was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 7 June.

All vehicles were towed from there scene.
