Drink driver crashes at Waterloo Corner

A man will face court after a crash at Waterloo Corner this morning.

Just before 3am Saturday 27 April police were called to Port Wakefield Road after reports a Toyota Kluger that had been travelling north misjudged the right hand turn onto Old Port Wakefield Road, hit the kerb and spun the car.

When police arrived at the scene they found the car with airbags deployed but the driver was nowhere to be seen.

Police and PD Enzo searched the area but couldn’t locate anyone. However a short time later an eagle eyed CFS member spotted a man walking about 2km south of the crash site.

Police attended and located the, 27-year-old Virginia man, who was soaking wet after wandering through a nearby waterway. He was breath tested, allegedly returning a positive reading of 0.158.

He was reported for drink driving and driving without due care and lost his licence on the spot for six months. The car was towed from the scene and he will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
