Extreme speeder detected at O'Halloran Hill

A man has been arrested after being detected driving at an extreme speed at O’Halloran Hill last night.

About 11.15pm on Saturday 20 April, police were driving south on the Southern Expressway when they were overtaken by a speeding red Hyundai Hatchback. The vehicle was driving at speeds estimated to be in excess of 180 km/h in a 100 km/h speed zone.

The Hyundai was tracked as it drove through the suburbs of Happy Valley, Hallett Cove and through to Morphett Vale.

Police deployed road spikes on Sherriffs Road, and the vehicle stopped shortly after. Three occupants ran from the vehicle, but the driver was arrested a short distance away. Police searched for the two passengers were not able to locate them.

The driver was breath tested and he allegedly produced a blood alcohol reading of 0.063. Checks also showed that he had a disqualified driver's licence.

A 23-year-old man from Happy Valley arrested for driving at an extreme speed, driving at a speed and in a manner dangerous, driving disqualified and exceeding prescribed concentration of alcohol. His car was impounded and he was issued with a 12-month instant loss of licence. He was bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on 20 May.
