Hillbank fire investigation continues

Investigations into a suspicious grass fire at Hillbank on Saturday are continuing.

Between 12.30pm and 1.30pm on Saturday 13 April 2024 a suspicious grass fire destroyed approximately 3 hectares of vegetation in the Highfield Drive Reserve located in Hillbank. Multiple MFS and CFS ground and aerial firefighters responded to the incident to extinguish the blaze.

Detectives from the Northern District have obtained CCTV that shows to two male youths in the vicinity of Highfield Drive that are understood to have alerted a nearby resident to the fire.

Investigators are seeking to identify and speak with these boys to further the investigation.

The youths are described of Caucasian appearance and approximately 10 to 12 years of age. One of the boys has short dark brown hair and was wearing a white t-shirt, grey tracksuit pants, and white sneakers. The second boy has short blonde hair and was wearing a red t-shirt, red shorts, and black sneakers.

Detectives are also requesting anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area; or who may have further CCTV or dashcam footage captured in the vicinity of Hammond Close, Winston Crescent, or Highfield Drive at the time of the incident to contact police.
