Murray Mallee weekend traffic report

A 78-year-old man from Tailem Bend was arrested after a crash at Murray Bridge. It will be alleged that on Saturday 1 August he was driving on Swanport Road when he collided with a pedestrian barrier. Checks on his licence revealed that he was disqualified from driving. He was charged with driving without due care, driving while disqualified and other traffic offences. He was bailed to appear in court at a later date. He also had his vehicle impounded for 28 days.

On Saturday 1 August, police located a man asleep in his vehicle on Princes Highway, Tailem Bend. The driver, a 79-year-old local man underwent a breath test and returned a positive reading of 0.138. He was issued with a six-month immediate loss of licence notice and had his car impounded for 28 days. He will be summonsed to appear in Murray Bridge court at a later date.

On Sunday 2 August, police stopped a 22-year-old man from Semaphore Park while he was driving on Ral Ral Avenue when he returned a positive reading of 0.155. He was reported for drink-driving, he was issued with a 12-month immediate loss of licence notice and his car was impounded for 28 days. He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

Four drivers were also detected by Murray Mallee Police with illegal drugs in their system.

On Saturday 1 August, a 39-year-old man from Renmark was stopped riding a motorbike on Myrtle Street, Renmark. Checks showed that his licence was disqualified. He underwent a driver screening test and returned a positive reading to cannabis and methamphetamine.

On Saturday 1 August, a 50-year-old man from Alawoona was stopped on Tobruk Terrace, Loxton. He underwent a driver screening test and returned a positive reading to methamphetamine.

Today (Monday 3 August), a 60-year-old man from Brompton was stopped on Adelaide Road, Murray Bridge. He underwent a driver screening test which returned a positive result to drugs.

Today (Monday 3 August), a 35-year-old man from Myponga was stopped on Best Street, Murray Bridge. He underwent a driver screening test and returned a positive reading to cannabis.

All drivers were issued with a three-month immediate loss of licence notice and may be summonsed to appear in court at a later date pending forensic analysis.
