Police Security Officers graduate

The 16 members of Course 1 range in age from 18 to 58 and come from diverse employment backgrounds including pre-school educator, hospitality, disability worker and bus driver.

Graduate Nikita spent most of her childhood living in rural areas and in the Northern Territory before moving to Adelaide to study a Bachelor of Social Work. She said the skills and experience she gained in that role, (namely service, integrity and respect) will assist her in her career as a Police Security Officer.

“The Academy experience can be a bit of a pressure cooker, but my course mates were always there when you needed support and help with study techniques,” Nikita said.

“My simple words would be to just apply, you never know unless you try. Be honest in your application and be confident in your panel interview.”

Mudasar had been working as a security officer before deciding to apply to be a Police Security Officer. Growing up in Pakistan, Mudasar said he had been nervous and untrusting of police, but now hopes to help change perceptions for others coming to Australia and help improve the trust of police in his community.

“Being vocal and assertive is something that I have always struggled with, so having the opportunity to work on this during the course has given me the confidence to use my voice effectively in different situations," said Mudasar.

Mudasar said the course fostered an environment where everyone felt comfortable to speak up and ask questions, and the course mentors were knowledgeable and highly experienced.
