Cause bushfire charges in Port Augusta

A teen has been charged after allegedly starting two bushfires in Port Augusta.

About 1.40pm Wednesday 24 April police were called to the vicinity of Cain Street and Bailey Street after reports of a fire.

Police and MFS responded with fire crews quickly extinguishing the blaze. No property was damaged, but about 50 square metres of scrub/grass was burnt. Witnesses reported seeing a male youth leaving the area around the time of the fire.

Following an investigation, about 2.15pm, police attended a local home where they located and arrested a 17-year-old boy. He has been charged with two counts of causing a bushfire. Police will allege he lit a fire near Victoria Parade on Tuesday 23 April. He was refused bail and will appear in the Port Augusta Youth Court via video link on Friday 26 April.
