Get ready for the long weekend

Who doesn’t love a three-day weekend? You reach Sunday night and wait for the blues to kick in, suddenly remembering it’s the Queen’s Birthday! Another chance at a day off. How awesome is that!

There’s loads you could get up to with that extra day, something as simple as getting stuck into a new book or starting that series that’s been on your list for a few months.

You could even push the boat out (literally) and head out to sea or hit the road and go camping with friends and family.

Whatever you decide to do, it’s always good to think about what your plans could also mean for your personal and property safety.

The Neighbourhood Watch have pulled together these five simple tips to help you towards a safe three-day weekend:

  1. If you’re leaving your property, ensure all doors and windows (even to your shed) are locked.
  2. If you’re going on a road trip, make sure you take a break every two hours, something so simple as this could actually save your life!
  3. If you’re going far, be prepared for remote travel by packing well - you never know when resources may be limited. Also make sure someone knows your weekend itinerary and keep in regular contact.
  4. When leaving your vehicle, remove all valuables. Remove it, lock it, or risk losing it!
  5. If you're celebrating, drink responsibly and plan ahead to make sure you get home safely.
