Driver arrested after crashing into Athol Park business

28 May 2026 9:20pm

A driver has been arrested after crashing into an Athol Park business this afternoon.

Western District patrols spotted a Holden sedan allegedly exceeding the speed limit on Hanson Road, Athol Park, just before 3pm on Thursday 28 May.

Officers conducted a U-turn to stop the vehicle, however it sped off and they lost sight of it. A short time later, patrols located the Holden on Hanson Road after it crashed into the verandah of a nearby business.

It will be alleged the driver struck a bus stop sign, a fence and narrowly missed a stobie pole before crashing into a verandah post.

The driver, a 49-year-old Christies Beach man, was arrested at the scene and charged with driving in a manner dangerous, driving without due care and driving with an expired licence. He was further charged with drug offences after allegedly being found in possession of prescription medication and methamphetamine. He was granted police bail to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on 9 July.

The sedan was impounded for 28 days.

SA State Emergency Service personnel attended to assist in making the structure safe until repairs can be completed.
