Rider arrested at Seaford

7 Oct 2026 9:15pm

The rider of a petrol motor-assisted bicycle was arrested after riding through a red light in an attempt to evade police at Seaford this evening.

At 5.20pm on Wednesday 7 October, police were patrolling the Seaford area with a focus on e-bike offences.

Patrols observed a man riding a petrol-assisted pushbike on Tiller Drive, Seaford.  Upon seeing police, the rider allegedly rode through a red light and into heavy traffic on Commercial Road.

Patrols were assisted by PolAir, which was already operating in the area, and the rider was tracked to a nearby residential address.

The 18-year-old Seaford man was arrested and charged with a number of traffic offences, including driving an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle and driving unlicensed.

He was bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on 29 October.

The bicycle was inspected and found to have been modified with a petrol motor for propulsion, while the pedals had been removed.  As a result, it was classified as a motorbike.

The motorcycle was impounded for 28 days.

Southern District police remain committed to targeting dangerous road users, including riders of modified petrol-assisted pushbikes, illegal e-bikes and unregistered motorbikes.
