Bikes seized and riders arrested at Hove

7 Oct 2026 10:27am

Two youths have been arrested following an investigation into incidents involving illegal motorbikes and dangerous behaviour targeting motorists at Darlington.

About 11.45pm on Thursday 28 September, police were called to the Southern Expressway following reports of eggs being thrown at passing cars.  It was later found the eggs had been stolen from a nearby service station.

Following investigations, police attended a home at Hove yesterday morning and conducted a search in relation to the theft, and egg throwing incidents, as well as a series of traffic offences with the use of electric motorbikes.

Officers impounded two high powered electric motorbikes, motorbike clothing, helmets, phones and a GoPro camera.

One of the electric motorbikes was designed by the manufacturer for exclusively off-road use, and the other was a pushbike modified to be an electric motorbike, with its own speed control indicating an unloaded maximum speed of 128km/h.

As a result, police arrested a 14-year-old boy from Hove and a 14-year-old girl from Gilles Plains. They were both charged with driving unlicenced, driving and unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, theft, and throw missile.

The pair were bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on 22 October.

Police investigations are continuing and further arrests are expected.

Police remind parents that electric motorbikes and modified pushbikes do not comply with Australian Design Rules or road rules. Electronic motorbikes and modified E-bikes may be considered as motor vehicles, therefore requiring licensing, registration and insurance.
