Arrest following traffic stop

A woman has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a police officer during a traffic stop in Whyalla yesterday afternoon.

About 2.30pm on Tuesday 20 May, police were conducting driver testing on Lincoln Highway at Whyalla Barson when they directed a cement truck into the testing site.

The driver, a 38-year-old woman from Whyalla Stuart was drug tested and returned a positive result for methamphetamine.

Police requested the driver to get out of the truck however she refused to exit the cab of the truck and failed to comply with further police directions including supplying a sample of her oral fluid.  Patrols arrested the woman and during the arrest she allegedly kicked police twice in the leg.

Further checks revealed the driver was disqualified from driving.  Police issued her with a further six month on the spot licence disqualification.

She was charged with assaulting a prescribed emergency worker, fail to obey with direction by police officer, obstructing an officer exercising road law powers and failing to allow oral fluid to be taken.  She was bailed to appear in Whyalla Magistrates Court on 17 June.
