Arrest after Riverlea Park incident

03 Apr 2024 11:15am

A man has been arrested after an incident at Riverlea Park.

It will be alleged that about 5.30am today (Wednesday 3 April), police were flagged down by a member of the public next to Port Wakefield Highway after reports that a silver Ford sedan had driven at a man almost hitting him before speeding off.

Officers located a 38-year-old Munno Para West man nearby. He had suffered an injury to his leg a short time before in nearby Kapinka Drive.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment and his injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

Detectives from Northern District CIB attended the scene and located the suspect soon after. A stolen yellow BMW motorcycle was also located at the suspect’s home address.

Both the Ford sedan and the motorcycle were seized by police and towed from the scene for forensic examination.

A 36-year-old Riverlea Park man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault causing harm, acts to endanger life and breach of bail. He was also charged with driving unlicenced and illegal use of a motor vehicle in relation to the stolen motorbike.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today.

The incident is not believed to be random.
