Yacht run aground at Port MacDonnell

05 Apr 2024 11:58am

A sailing vessel has run aground at Port MacDonnell last night.

About 9.15pm on Thursday 4 April, police were alerted to a 12m fiberglass yacht grounded approximately 500 metres southwest from the boat ramp on the west side of the breakwater.

Local fisherman witnessed the vessel being hit by two large waves shortly before running aground and contacted Port MacDonnell Police. A fishing tender was used to rescue the two sailors. They were not injured.

The vessel remains grounded at high tide and is in a position that could pose a risk to other operators in certain conditions.

It is now subject to a salvage operation which may take several days so please be aware of the incident.
