A teenage boy has been arrested after allegedly being found in possession of drugs at Yatala Labour Prison.
On Monday 15 June, police responded to Yatala Labour Prison following reports that a visitor had been located in possession of drugs.
It will be alleged that the 16-year-old boy from Hackham West was found in possession of 243 strips of Buprenorphine.
The teenager was arrested and charged with trafficking a controlled drug and introducing contraband into a correctional facility. He was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Youth Court on 30 June.
Following further investigations, members of the Police Corrections Team attended a Hackham West home on Thursday 9 July to conduct a search. It will be alleged that further Buprenorphine strips and approximately 27 grams of methamphetamine were located.
A 24-year-old woman from the address was arrested and charged with trafficking a controlled drug. She was bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on 10 August.
Detective Acting Chief Inspector Luke Smith of the Public Protection Branch said the introduction of illicit drugs and other prohibited items into correctional facilities poses significant risks to the safety, security and wellbeing of prisoners, staff and visitors.
"SAPOL will continue to work closely with our partner agencies to detect and prevent contraband entering correctional facilities and hold those responsible accountable", Detective Acting Chief Inspector Smith said.
Anyone with information about the supply of drugs or contraband into correctional facilities is urged to contact Crime Stoppers online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or by calling 1800 333 000. You can remain anonymous.
