Update - EP search concludes

11 Apr 2024 2:14pm

Police have concluded their search along the Eyre Highway for evidence connected to the robbery and death of a man earlier this year.

On Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 April, police searched approximately 22 kilometres of road-side scrub for weapons or other evidence that may be linked to the death.

It is believed the two arrested suspects hitch-hiked along this section of road following the incident, from the junction of Fowler’s Bay Road to Nundroo.

Investigators said they successfully recovered an ‘item of interest’ of potential relevance to the investigation. The item has been seized and will be sent to Forensic Science SA for analysis.

About 10am on Saturday 20 January the victim, a 67-year-old local man, was found unresponsive with a serious head injury at on the Eyre Highway, Scotdesco in the States Far West. Investigations revealed the victim had been assaulted and robbed before his white 1992 Mitsubishi Pajero with trailer (pictured) was stolen.

Later that day, a 39-year-old man from Yalata and a 28-year-old woman from Yalata, were arrested and charged with aggravated robbery. Both remain in custody and will appear before the Port Augusta Magistrates Court on 1 May.

The Pajero was later found abandoned on Fowler’s Bay Road at the junction of the Eyre Highway.

The victim sadly passed away in hospital on Wednesday 20 March and his death was declared a major crime.
