Police warn not to take a risk with flood waters

Just before 9pm on Thursday 2 July, police and emergency crews were called to a swift water rescue at Winery Road.

A man attempted to drive his Isuzu Utility through the flooded road against the signage warning that the road was closed.

As he drove through, the water rose to the level of the driver's seat and shut down the engine. He then alerted emergency services he was stranded.

Police together with assistance from the SES managed to extract the man to dry land after a swift water rescue team was deployed. His vehicle remains at the scene until it is safe to be retrieved.

Fortunately, the 73-year-old man from Clayton Bay was not physically injured.

With the recent heavy rain this is a timely reminder for South Australians to be aware of rising waters in creeks and bodies of water that are normally dry and to pay attention to warning signs.

If there are signs indicating the road is closed please obey them and do not enter.
