Operation targets safety on southern Adelaide rail network

Police and transit officers have conducted a joint operation across Adelaide's southern rail network to enhance public safety and deter anti-social behaviour.

On Thursday 22 August, members of the Southern District Public Transport Policing Team, together with Adelaide Metro Prescribed Officers, conducted an operation on the Seaford, Flinders and Belair railway lines.

The operation focused on maintaining a visible presence on public transport services and ensuring the safety of commuters travelling throughout the network.

Despite high patronage across all three rail lines, officers reported that commuters were well behaved and cooperative throughout the operation.

During the operation, police conducted 53 metal detector wand searches. Officers also issued five expiation notices for anti-social behaviour offences and spoke with seven passengers regarding fare evasion.

Police were encouraged by the positive response from passengers, with many commuters engaging positively with officers and expressing support for the increased police presence on the rail network.

South Australia Police will continue to work closely with Adelaide Metro and other partner agencies to help ensure public transport remains a safe environment for all passengers and staff.
