A man was arrested after a handgun was found during a police operation at the Adelaide Railway Station last night.

About 10.45pm on Saturday 4 July, Police were conducting a Passive Alert Detection Dog (PADD) Operation at the Adelaide Railway Station.

A positive indication from Police Dog Fang led police to search a man, with officers allegedly finding him in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine.  A search of the man's backpack then uncovered a .22 calibre semi-automatic handgun and ammunition.

The 48-year-old Devon Park man was arrested and charged with serious firearms offences, including possess firearm without a licence, and possess controlled drug.

He did not apply for bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.
