Driver arrested after performing nazi salute at Smithfield

09 Sep 2026 2:20pm

A man has been arrested for performing a Nazi salute following a traffic stop at Smithfield yesterday.

Just before 5pm on Tuesday 8 September, police were travelling on Main North Road at Smithfield when a Toyota sedan began driving aggressively behind their unmarked police vehicle.

The patrol stopped the car in a nearby car park and submitted the driver to drug and alcohol testing.

The driver, an 18-year-old Davoren Park man, returned a positive roadside drug test to cannabis and during the interaction, it will be alleged he performed a Nazi salute.

The man was subsequently arrested and charged with performing a Nazi salute in a public place. He was also issued with a three-month immediate loss of licence notice and may face drug driving charges pending the results of forensic analysis.

He was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court at a later date.
