Assault at Hackney during attempted robbery

A man was assaulted when he interrupted someone trying to steal his e-bike at Hackney this morning.

Police and paramedics were called to a caravan park in Richmond Street, Hackney about 4.45am on Friday 9 October by reports of an assault.

The victim, a 60-year-old Queensland man, was awoken by noises outside his motorhome and went outside to investigate.  He found an unknown man trying to steal his e-bike, which was secured to the motorhome.  The victim was struck to the head with the angle grinder, and the suspect fled the scene.

Police arrived and located the e-bike a short distance away.  The angle grinder was also left at the scene.  Patrols searched the area but did not locate the offender.  He is described as a tall man, about 191cm tall, of Caucasian appearance.

The victim sustained a laceration to his head and was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Investigations are continuing.
