Cell phone gun seized in Whyalla

Whyalla police arrested a man last week after an improvised firearm was found in his possession.

On Friday 12 June, police attended a property on Taylor Street, Whyalla Stuart, as part of an ongoing investigation and conducted a search.

It is alleged that a handgun disguised to resemble a mobile phone was located in a satchel bag belonging to the occupant.

A 45-year-old man was arrested and charged with possessing a firearm without a licence and contravening a firearm prohibition order. He was further charged in relation to an outstanding aggravated assault matter.

The man did not apply for bail and will appear in the Whyalla Magistrates Court today, Monday 15 June.
