Teen arrested after attempting to break into cars in the CBD

Police are reminding members of the public to ensure your cars are locked - All the time, everytime after a teen was arrested in the CBD.

Just before 4.50am this morning, Sunday 12 July, police were called to Frome Road following reports a witness had seen a man attempting to break into vehicles.

Patrols were quick to the scene and located the suspect matching the description a short distance away, where he was arrested.

The 18-year-old from Kingscote was charged with illegal interference and granted police bail to appear in the Magistrates Court on 1 September 2026.

Thankfully, no items were stolen but - this serves as a timely reminder to ensure that when you are not with your vehicle - lock it!

Here are some vehicle safety tips to keep your car (and belongings) safe:

Lock it -

  • Lock vehicle doors. All the time, every time.
  • Don't leave your car running - ever!
  • Open windows show your vehicle is not secure, so close the windows/sunroof.
  • Never leave your keys or remotes in the car, not in public and not at home.

Remove Valuables -

  • Any items visible in your car, even shopping bags or clothing can entice thieves.
  • Remove items and if you cant - keep them out of sight.
