Meet Emma Adams

EmmaAdams

Emma Adams is the social media guru behind the Woodcroft Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) Facebook group.

Emma joined Woodcroft NHW in 2023 after receiving a newsletter in the mail asking for volunteers to join the group.

“I didn’t know too much about Neighbourhood Watch, but I thought it would be a shame if the group had to close,” Emma said. “So I rang (Area Coordinator) George Holroyd and attended a meeting. At first I thought I would be the secretary, but I ended up taking responsibility for the group’s social media.”

It’s a role which sees Emma combine her social media know-how with an eagerness to help keep the community safe.

“I have a background in journalism and I try to make each post engaging, whether that’s by adding a bit of humour or asking questions to facilitate conversations,” she explained. “I like living in a safe community and I’ve always thought of Woodcroft as that. So I enjoy promoting safety and showing people how they can make their houses safer.”

Emma ensures the Facebook group remains fresh by creating new ways to convey safety information and NHW messaging.

“I do try to tailor my posts to matters which are relevant to our local community,” Emma said. “I remember driving at night and seeing lots of security lights on, so I made a post praising members of the community for that. Sometimes people just need reminders about more general things, like being safe when online shopping.”

“I recently posted an AI photo of a house showing several obvious safety issues, such as a ladder on the ground, mail piling up and an unkept bush in-front of a door. I received a comment which highlighted more issues than I had realised, which shows that group member understood how to secure their property.”

Emma said members of Woodcroft NHW had been “super supportive” since she joined the group.

“They’ve been great, always providing feedback or ideas for future posts. I’ve really enjoyed working with the group, they’ve been lovely to get to know and I really appreciate their support with the Facebook group.”
