A man had his car stolen during a test drive at Burton overnight.

The victim had listed his silver 2008 BMW sedan for sale online and a man attended his Burton address just before midnight on Thursday 25 June to inspect the car.

The buyer took the BMW for a short test drive in the street and returned to the house.

When the victim asked him to show his licence and identification, the man produced a knife and drove off in the BMW.

The victim was not physically injured during the robbery.

The suspect is described as aged in his early 20s, about 178cm tall, with dark hair and wearing red and white shoes.

Police searched the area for the stolen BMW, registration S786DFS, and suspect, but they have not yet been located.

Anyone who spots the stolen BMW is asked to call the police assistance line immediately on 131 444 or contact Crime Stoppers at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or 1800 333 000 with any information.
