Dangerous driver caught on Barrier Hwy

23 Apr 2024 5:48pm

A drink driver will face court after almost crashing into a police car in the State’s Mid North yesterday.

About 2.45pm Monday 22 April Peterborough police were travelling south on the Barrier Highway at Whyte Yarcowie, when they saw a black Holden Astra travelling north.

As the Astra got closer to police it swerved slightly over the double white dividing line casing police to swerve out of the way. Police conducted a U-turn and pulled the car over to speak to the driver.

The driver, a 47-year-old NSW man, was breath tested, allegedly returning a positive reading of 0.241 – almost five times the limit. Checks revealed the man had never held a drivers licence.

He was reported for driving unlicenced, aggravated driving without due care and drink driving. He was issued with an instant loss of licence for 12 months and the Astra was impounded for 28 days. He will be summonsed to court at a later date.
