13 May 2025 6:58am

A reckless driver has been charged with drug and traffic offences after being stopped at Parafield Gardens early this morning.

Just after 3am Tuesday 13 May, a member of the public called police after they spotted a vehicle swerving and driving erratically on Semaphore Road. The witness followed the car, providing updates to police as it travelled towards the northern suburbs. The car had several near misses with other road users and was not stopping for red lights.

Northern District patrols responded, locating the vehicle on Salisbury Highway where they found the driver had fallen asleep. Police woke the driver and subsequently searched his car where they located methamphetamine and drug equipment.

The driver, a 44-year-old man from Gulfview Heights was arrested and charged with trafficking a controlled drug, driving under the influence and various traffic offences. He was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 1 July.
