Shadow Fleet returns to the Limestone Coast

Between Monday 3 August and Thursday 6 August, Road Policing officers deployed the Shadow Fleet across the South East, targeting drivers engaging in risky and dangerous behaviour on local roads.

During the four-day operation, officers conducted nearly 300 alcohol tests and 168 drug tests. More than 40 drivers allegedly returned positive results for illicit drugs.

A total of 129 expiations were issued for a range of traffic offences, while three vehicles were impounded for 28 days after their drivers were detected driving while disqualified.

Just before 5pm on Tuesday 4 August, officers stopped a Holden sedan on Commercial Street East, Mount Gambier. The driver, a 30-year-old South East man, allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test for methamphetamine. Checks also revealed he was disqualified from driving.

He was arrested and charged with driving while disqualified, breach of bail and driving under the influence of drugs. He was bailed to appear in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court on 1 September. His vehicle was impounded for 28 days.

The operation was again met with positive feedback from the community. Many people stopped by police expressed support for the Shadow Fleet initiative, while local residents, including school children, showed a keen interest in the vehicles, asking questions, taking photographs and discussing the program.

The positive community response highlights ongoing support for SAPOL's efforts to detect and deter dangerous road users and improve road safety across regional South Australia.
