Drink drivers to appear in court

02 May 2025 6:35am

Two high-range drink drivers have been caught after police spotted them swerving through the suburbs overnight.

Just before 11.30pm on Thursday 1 May, police spotted a white Hyundai sedan swerving on Marion Road at Cowandilla as it travelled north.  Patrols stopped the car on Hardys Road at Underdale and stopped it for a random driver test.

The P-plate driver, a 29-year-old man from Croydon, submitted to a breath test where he provided a positive result of 0.245 – nearly five times over the legal limit.

He was reported for drink driving and contravening his provisional licence condition.

Just after 1am on Friday 2 May, police were travelling north on Philip Highway, Elizabeth South, when they saw a silver Mitsubishi Mirage also heading north, however failing to stay in one lane.

Police stopped the car and spoke with the driver, a 42-year-old man from Elizabeth North, who submitted to a breath test where he provided a positive result of 0.269 – more five times over the legal limit.

He was reported for drink driving and he was issued a 12-month immediate loss of licence.

Both cars were impounded for 28 days and both men will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
