Eight speeding drivers detected at Hallett Cove

Despite the recent loss of life on these roads, police detected eight speeding drivers over a two-day period.

Among them was a driver travelling at 96 km/h in a signed 80 km/h zone. The driver told police he was a friend of the passenger who tragically died in the collision and was disappointed in himself for speeding on the same stretch of road.

Another driver was stopped travelling at 110 km/h in the same 80 km/h zone and was issued an expiation notice.

The fact that drivers continue to speed in an area where a person recently lost their life is both disappointing and concerning.

Speed limits are not suggestions. They are in place to protect lives. Every kilometre over the limit reduces a driver's ability to react and increases the severity of a crash.

This is a timely reminder that road trauma affects families, friends, first responders and entire communities. No destination is worth risking a life.
