A gel blaster and expandable baton have been seized following a crash in the northern suburbs earlier this morning.
About 1.20am on Friday 4 April, police were called to the intersection of Waterloo Corner Road and Heaslip Road at Waterloo Corner after a witness reported a Ford Falcon had crashed and hit a guard rail and three people were seen running from the area.
On arrival police saw the car had significant front-end damage and police called for a tow. In the meantime, patrols spotted a taxi parked nearby and spoke with the driver who explained he was unable to find his passengers who had booked a collection.
Police continued to watch the taxi as it entered a nearby street and saw three people who matched the description provided by the witness enter the car. Police stopped the taxi and spoke to the occupants.
The driver of the crashed Ford, a 21-year-old man from Blakeview, was in possession of a backpack which patrols searched and located a gel blaster, an expandable baton, cannabis and an ice pipe.
He was arrested and charged with a raft of offences including driving without due care, failing to stop at a crash, drive an unregistered, uninsured and defected car, driving without a licence, possessing a firearm and possessing a prohibited weapon. He was refused police bail and will appear in Elizabeth Magistrates Court today, Friday 4 April.
The passenger, a 24-year-old woman from Blakeview, was charged with failing to truly answer questions and carrying an offensive weapon. She was granted police bail and will appear in Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 14 April.
The second passenger, a 31-year-old man from Andrews Farm was reported for possessing equipment to use with a controlled drug and failing to truly answer questions. He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
