A truck driver was arrested after weapons and drugs were located in a traffic stop at Tailem Bend last night.
Just before 6pm on Tuesday 9 June, officers from the Heavy Vehicle Enforcement Unit were conducting heavy vehicle compliance checks on the Princes Highway when they stopped a semi-trailer heading to Melbourne.
Checks showed that the driver, a 39-year-old man from Victoria, was disqualified from driving. The driver also returned a positive roadside drug test for methamphetamine and failed to produce a work diary as required.
A search of the truck was conducted, resulting in officers seizing two electronic control devices (ECDs), one which was capable of firing projectiles, a set of knuckle dusters, a large quantity of prescription stimulants, a small amount of cannabis, methamphetamines and a radar detector.
Further inspection of the heavy vehicle identified a speed limiter override device, controlled via a concealed switch.
The driver was arrested and charged with driving while disqualified, possessing dangerous articles, possessing a prohibited weapon and possession of a drug of dependence. He was bailed to appear in the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court on 3 August. His driver’s licence was further disqualified immediately for a further three months.
