A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in Port Augusta for allegedly stealing a car.

Just before 12pm on Sunday 14 June, a Kia SUV was allegedly stolen following a break-in to a residential property in Whyalla Stuart.

At about 8:30pm, Port Augusta police spotted the car which was found later, dumped on Burke Crescent, Port Augusta.

Police attended Kirwan Crescent, Port Augusta West, as part of the investigation, where a number of youths ran off from the address.

A 15-year-old boy was subsequently located hiding in the rear yard of a neighbouring house. He was arrested for illegal use of a motor vehicle, hindering the police and being unlawfully on premises. He was bailed to appear in the Port Augusta Youth Court on 15 July.

The stolen car was returned to the owner.
