Summertown man arrested for traffic offences

06 May 2024 2:51pm

A Summertown man was arrested after allegedly failing to stop when police tried to pull him over for speeding at Murbko on Sunday.

About 1pm on Sunday 5 May, a Murray Mallee Highway Patrol detected a Toyota sedan speeding at 117 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Murbko Road, Murbko.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, however the driver failed to stop.

When the car eventually pulled over, it will be alleged the driver refused to exit the vehicle or state his name and address.  He then refused to comply with alcohol and drug testing.

Investigations subsequently identified the man and police checks revealed he was currently disqualified from driving.

The 58-year-old Summertown man was arrested and charged with exceed speed, fail to stop, drive disqualified, hinder police, fail to state name and address, refuse alcohol test and refuse drug test.

He was issued with a further 12 month instant loss of licence and his car was impounded for 28 days.

He was bailed to appear in the Berri Magistrates Court on 8 July.
