Teens arrested with machete at shopping centre

About 1pm on Thursday 9 July, police attended Westfield Marion following reports that two youths had stolen items from a department store before leaving the shopping centre.

Police located the two nearby and found the pair in possession of suspected stolen property.

During a search, police also located a machete concealed on one of the youths, along with a small quantity of cannabis.

A 17-year-old Christie Downs boy was arrested and charged with carrying an offensive weapon in a declared public precinct, theft, unlawful possession of property and possessing cannabis. He was also arrested in relation to outstanding theft matters.

A 16-year-old Happy Valley boy was arrested and charged with theft and unlawful possession of property. He was also arrested in relation to outstanding theft offences and breaches of bail.

Both youths were granted bail and are expected to appear in the Christies Beach Youth Court on 13 August.
