Stolen car arrest at Ridgehaven

Police had cordoned off an area around Nelson Road, Para Hills about 12.40am on Tuesday 28 July, searching for an unrelated stolen car.

A silver SUV, with no registration plates, drove through the cordon before heading into the drive-thru of a fast food outlet on Golden Grove Road, Ridgehaven.

Police vehicles blocked in the SUV, but the driver tried to drive across the garden to escape police, colliding with a light post and a police car.

The driver, a 37-year-old Morphettville man, was then arrested.  He was charged with illegal use, driving unlicensed, unlawful possession, driving in a manner dangerous to the public and possessing prescription and controlled drugs.  He was refused police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court later today.

Police checks revealed the Nissan X-Trail had been reported stolen from a Brooklyn Park address earlier this month (7 July).

There were no injuries and only minor damage sustained during the incident.

The stolen Nissan X-Trail was towed away for forensic examination.
