Two youths arrested over stolen car at Port Augusta

About 7.15am on Thursday 6 August, police saw a Mazda SUV driving in a dangerous manner, speeding and swerving in and out of traffic on Victoria Parade.

Police attempted to follow the vehicle but lost sight of it. A few minutes later, the Mazda was found abandoned on Rogers Street. Officers stopped two youths seen walking away from the vehicle and were subsequently arrested.

Enquiries with the registered owner revealed the keys had been stolen from a home in Port Augusta before the vehicle was stolen.

A 15-year-old boy from Port Augusta and a 16-year-old boy from Indulkana were charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass and illegal use of a motor vehicle. The older boy was further charged with driving in a dangerous manner and breach of bail. He was refused bail while the Port Augusta boy was bailed to appear in the Port Augusta Youth Court on 9 September.
