Two men have been caught drug driving following traffic stops in Coober Pedy this weekend.

Just before 8pm on Saturday 24 October, police stopped a Land Rover on Hutchison Street and submitted the driver to a roadside drug test. A 36-year-old local man allegedly returned a positive result to methamphetamine. He was issued with a three-month instant loss of licence.

Just after 5.30pm on Sunday 25 October, a Mitsubishi 4WD was stopped by police on Matrix Avenue after checks revealed the vehicle was unregistered.

The driver, a 30-year-old local man, returned a positive result to methamphetamine following a roadside drug test. He was reported for driving an unregistered vehicle, issued with a three-month instant loss of licence and his car was defected.

Both men may face drug driving charges following results of a forensic analysis.

Police remind motorists that driving while affected by drugs is dangerous and puts all road users at risk. Anyone who chooses to drive after consuming illicit drugs can expect to be detected and face penalties.
