Teens arrested and e-bikes impounded in Port Lincoln

About 4.47pm on Saturday 5 September, police attempted to stop two e-motorcycle riders at the corner of Lincoln Highway and Sawyer Street. The motorcycle riders initially stopped but then sped off, heading towards Port Lincoln.

Police caught up to the riders as they rode at speeds well in excess of 25km/h along the highway before turning on to the Parnkalla Trail.

Extra patrols were called to the area and the two riders were stopped near Lions Park where they were arrested.

The two sixteen-year-old boys from Port Lincoln were charged with numerous offences including failing to stop, driving unlicenced, unregistered and uninsured.

Both riders were drug tested and returned positive results for cannabis, cocaine and methamphetamine. They were issued with three-month immediate loss of licence notices and their bikes were impounded for 28 days.

Police will not tolerate the use of illegally modified e-bikes and motorcycles that endanger not only the rider but pedestrians and other road users.

These arrests demonstrate SAPOL's ability to identify, track and apprehend offenders who choose to disregard road rules and place the community at risk. Riders who engage in this behaviour can expect to be prosecuted.
