Stolen car spiked in the eastern suburbs

19 May 2025 7:53am

A man has been arrested after allegedly stealing a car during a test drive on Sunday evening.

About 5.30pm on Sunday 18 May, police were called to Torrens Road, Kilkenny following reports that a Jeep SUV had been stolen during a test drive.

A short time later, patrols from Eastern District and State Operations Support Branch spotted the stolen Jeep travelling north on Portrush Road. The car was then seen entering a carpark on Glen Osmond Road where the driver tried to evade police. Patrols successfully deployed road spikes to stop the car and the driver was arrested.

The driver, a 31-year-old man from Adelaide, was charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle, driving disqualified and breach of bail. He was granted bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in July.

The car was towed from the scene for forensic examination.
