House fire at Thebarton

Emergency services responded to a house fire at Thebarton this morning, near the Old Adelaide Gaol.

Police, fire crews and paramedics were called to a house on Gaol Road, Thebarton at 5am on Monday 15 April by reports of a house fire.

Neighbouring properties were evacuated as a precaution.

The fire was contained to the one premises, which was fully engulfed and sustained extensive damage.

The occupant, an 83-year-old man, was able to evacuate but sustained injuries in the fire.  He was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital by ambulance. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

No police dogs or horses at Thebarton Police Barracks were affected by the fire or smoke.

Fire investigators will attend the scene this morning to try to determine the cause of the fire.
