SA Police has made the National Road Safety Week pledge to do our part in making roads across Australia safe and we encourage others to do the same.
Barossa Local Service Area Chief Inspector Mark Collise said police will also conduct a state-wide road safety operation focused on curbing road safety offences from 12 – 18 May.
“Throughout National Road Safety Week, police will conduct Operation Danger, which targets easily avoidable offences and if drivers obey the road rules, they’re less likely to cause a crash,” Chief Inspector Collise said.
“Police will target dangerous road behaviours including following too close, disobeying traffic lights and Give Way signs, changing lanes dangerously, failing to keep left and misusing a motor vehicle.
“Road trauma impacts everyone from those involved to families, friends, work friends and the wider community.
“SA Police continues to work with the community to achieve a reduction in road trauma.”
This year, there have been 29 deaths and 297 serious injuries on South Australian roads and locally, there have been 18 serious injuries and two lives lost.
