Western suburbs man charged with historic child sex offences

A man has been arrested following an investigation into historical child sex offending.
On Thursday 10 September, detectives from Task Force Libero within South Australia Police's Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Service arrested a 73-year-old western suburbs man over alleged offences committed between 1978 and 2003.
The man has been charged with 55 offences, including multiple counts of rape, unlawful sexual intercourse, sexual abuse of a child, gross indecency and indecent assault. The charges relate to 29 known victim-survivors, many of whom were children at the time of the alleged offending.
He is expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.
Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Service Assistant Commissioner Stuart McLean said the arrest was the result of ongoing investigations by Task Force Libero.
The investigation commenced in December 2023, with Task Force Libero established in March 2025 to investigate allegations of historical child sexual abuse linked to the now-closed Magill Training Centre and other government care facilities.
“The passage of time does not diminish the seriousness with which SAPOL treats these allegations. They will be thoroughly investigated and, where the evidence supports it, offenders will be brought before the courts.’’
