Drink-driver caught at Prospect during traffic operation

On Friday 7 August, police had set up a driver testing on Main North Road as part of Operation High Impact F5, targeting the risky behaviours linked to fatalities and trauma on our roads.

The Fatal Five factors identified as contributors to road trauma and death are drink and drug driving, speeding, distraction, not wearing seatbelts, and dangerous driving.

About 11.30pm, a 47-year-old Mount Barker man entered the station and underwent a breath test, returning a positive reading of 0.206, more than four times the legal limit.

He was reported for drink-driving, he was issued a 12-month immediate loss of licence notice and his Toyota Camry sedan was impounded for 28 days. He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

Three other drivers were caught with alcohol in their system at the testing station, including a 55-year-old Prospect man who recorded a breath test reading of 0.099. His Subaru station wagon was impounded, he was issued a six-month immediate loss of licence notice and he will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

Three drivers were also caught at the testing station under the influence of drugs.

The operation commenced on Friday 7 August and will conclude on Sunday 16 August.
