A man has been arrested following two break-ins and the theft of a car in Murray Bridge.

Just after 10.30am on Friday 12 June, police received a report of a man removing number plates from a Volkswagen SUV parked near the corner of Maurice and Christian Roads.

Patrols quickly attended and located the man and the vehicle nearby.

Checks revealed the Volkswagen had been stolen during a break-in at a Murray Bridge home on Thursday 11 June.

The man was searched and allegedly found in possession of the Volkswagen’s keys and number plates, along with a quantity of methamphetamine. He was arrested at the scene.

Police later searched a property connected to the man and allegedly located property believed to have been stolen during the break-in, as well as a Toyota Hilux reported stolen from Victoria.

Further investigations identified the man as a suspect in a separate break-in at another Murray Bridge property on 10 June.

A 45-year-old Victorian man has been charged with multiple offences, including two counts of serious criminal trespass, illegal use of a motor vehicle, unlawful possession, and providing a false name to police.

He was refused police bail and will appear in the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court on Monday 15 June.
