Three arrested after stolen SUV crashes near Strathalbyn

Police were called to Milang Road, Angas Plains, just before 7am on Thursday 17 September following reports that a Subaru SUV had crashed into a group of trees. Witnesses reported the occupants had fled the scene. The vehicle had allegedly been involved in a fuel drive-off at Mount Barker in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Patrols searched the area and located the alleged driver hiding in a nearby vineyard about 7.20am.

The 17-year-old Mount Barker boy was arrested and charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified, making off without payment and breaching bail. He was refused police bail and will appear in the Mount Barker Youth Court Thursday afternoon.

Following further searches, an 18-year-old Salisbury North man and a 22-year-old Morphett Vale woman, who police allege were passengers in the Subaru during the crash, were spotted in a vineyard off nearby Davidson Road about 9.45am and arrested.

The man was charged with unlawfully being on premises and breaching bail. He was granted police bail and will appear in the Mount Barker Magistrates Court on 28 October.

The woman was charged with breaching the conditions of her learner's permit, unlawfully being on premises, making off without payment and possessing prescription medication. She was also granted police bail and will appear in the Mount Barker Magistrates Court on 11 November.

The Subaru, which had allegedly been stolen from Glenelg overnight, was towed from the scene.
