Eighteen new officers have joined South Australia Police (SAPOL) today as part of Course 92, bringing prior career experience from police security, correctional services, trades, real estate, disability support and retail.
Aged between 19 and 31, the cohort brings a broad mix of life and work experience into SAPOL.
Members also represent culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds including Pakistani, Greek, Aboriginal, and Japanese heritage.
In a notable outcome for this course, half of the graduates will begin their careers in regional South Australia, with postings across Port Augusta, Whyalla, Gawler and Murray Bridge.
Course mentors said the group embraced the opportunity to serve in country locations and were eager to contribute to regional communities.
Among the graduates is Sharon, 21, who worked in Correctional Services after finishing high school. He said SAPOL’s culture of teamwork, job security and pathways for career advancement motivated him to apply.
“The fast‑paced learning was new for me, but I adapted well,” he said.
Sharon will be posted to Port Augusta and hopes to one day work in State Tactical and later STAR Operations.
Also graduating is James, 22, who grew up in suburban Adelaide and brings experience from retail, landscaping and competitive sport.
James was drawn to a policing career with SAPOL for its strong job security and the variety of roles available.
“I like that every day is different and you can change what locations you work within,” he said.
James will begin his career in Whyalla, with long‑term ambitions in the Security Response Section (SRS) and Water Operations.
Felix, 24, comes from a background in facilities and client services in the accounting industry. He said the Academy exams were initially challenging but became a highlight as his confidence grew.
“During my out-phase, I learnt the many different [areas] of policing. I really enjoyed driver training and firearms training,” he said.
Felix’s advice to future applicants is that going in with an open mind, seeking guidance and bringing resilience and dedication will get you through the Academy.
“Talk to people in the job or attend recruitment seminars to get a better understanding of policing and what to expect.”
Felix will be posted to Western District at Henley Beach and hopes to work in SRS in the future.
Course mentors described the group as supportive and collaborative, noting that members regularly encouraged one another through physical assessments, study blocks and out‑of‑class activities.
